For generations, the craft of rattan and bamboo weaving has been closely linked to the cultural life and livelihood of the Thái people. And now, that pride is multiplied as the rattan and bamboo weaving technique of the Thái people in Điện Biên province has been recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a national intangible cultural heritage.

By allowing visitors to experience farming, explore rural life, and engage directly in agricultural activities, this model creates opportunities for cultural exchange, product promotion, and sustainable development.

By harnessing modern technology, the province is preserving and promoting its cultural values while turning traditional heritage into a vibrant resource for contemporary life.

ĐBP - In recent years, community-based tourism, where visitors live, eat, and engage in daily activities with local residents to experience their traditional culture, has become increasingly popular. Seizing this trend, many households and individuals across the province have boldly invested in developing homestay tourism. This model not only enriches the province’s tourism products but also creates economic opportunities and improves incomes for local people.

ĐBP - The Thái ethnic group is one of the few in Vietnam that still preserves its own language and script. This language and writing system are not only used in daily communication but also reflect the cultural life, history, and customs formed and crystallized over generations.

ĐBP - In recent years, our province has paid attention to encouraging and supporting People’s Artisans and Distinguished Artisans, while preserving and promoting the values of cultural heritage. However, the implementation of policies for artisans and cultural heritage bearers still faces many difficulties and shortcomings that need to be addressed.

ĐBP - Leveraging its tourism potential, Điện Biên province has in recent years paid special attention to promotion and marketing, organizing a series of large-scale activities with regional and national reach. Yet to truly become the “heart of the Northwest” and an attractive tourism hub, Điện Biên needs not only policy direction from authorities but also active participation from businesses and local communities.

ĐBP - In recent times, the Điện Biên provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has focused on renovating, cleaning, and improving the environment at sites within the Điện Biên Phủ Battlefield Special National Relic. A pilot effort has been carried out at Hill D1 (home to the Điện Biên Phủ Victory Monument) and its surrounding pathways.

ĐBP - From September 19-21, Điện Biên hosted the 2025 Northwest Quintessence Festival - Điện Biên, an event featuring thousands of artisans, performers, students, and young people, leaving a profound impression on visitors. With pride and love for their homeland, every participant became a “special tourism ambassador,” helping to spread the cultural values of the Northwest and promote the image of a dynamic, friendly, and culturally rich Điện Biên to domestic and international friends.

ĐBP - The 2025 Northwest Quintessence Festival - Điện Biên has wrapped up, but the impressions and values it created continue to resonate. More than just a vibrant cultural showcase, the festival opened a new chapter of opportunities for tourism promotion, branding, and cooperation among provinces in the expanded Northwest alliance and Hồ Chí Minh City, especially for Điện Biên province.

ĐBP - Situated at the northwestern edge of the nation, Điện Biên province is renowned as the land that bears witness to heroic chapters of national history, while also embodying a vast cultural space where the unique identities of 19 ethnic groups converge and flourish.

ĐBP - The traditions, customs, and festivals of 19 ethnic groups have created a diverse and distinctive cultural identity for Điện Biên. Adding to this is a vast cultural heritage system with 22 national intangible cultural heritages, including the Then practice of the Tày, Nùng, and Thái people, as well as the Thái Xòe dance, both of which have been inscribed by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

ĐBP - For generations, the khèn has been a cultural symbol of the Mông people. Its sound is regarded as the “voice of the mountains and forests,” present in festivals, spiritual life, and daily activities.

ĐBP - The rich treasury of traditional culture among ethnic communities in Điện Biên province has become a powerful spiritual resource for development. With continuous efforts to preserve, nurture, and promote, from customs and festivals to folk songs, dances, and traditional instruments, these cultural values are being revitalized, allowing the stream of heritage to flow endlessly.

ĐBP - On the evening of September 20, the Street Festival - one of the highlights of the 2025 Northwest Quintessence Festival - Điện Biên - took place along Võ Nguyên Giáp Street, stretching from the Victory Monument Ceremony Square to Vincom Trade Center.

ĐBP - Điện Biên is steadily asserting its unique position on the tourism map, not just as a land of historical significance, where the legendary “victory that echoed across five continents and shook the world” took place, but also as a region rich in majestic natural landscapes and the diverse cultural heritage of 19 ethnic groups. To transform its potential into real growth, Điện Biên has embraced a path of regional tourism cooperation, a crucial and inevitable approach in today’s era of integration and competition.

ĐBP - Along with language and writing, traditional costumes are a unique cultural feature of the Khơ Mú people. Their multi-colored outfits reflect the diligence, creativity, and meticulousness of Khơ Mú women in every stitch, helping to pass on to the next generation a sense of pride and respect for their cultural roots.
